Welcome to the 12th Annual Pro Wrestling Year-End Awards, here at Enuffa.com! It is insane to me that I've been doin' this thing for TWELVE YEARS now.
2025 was a pretty crazy, tumultuous year for the wrestling biz. WWE RAW found a new home on Netflix, Smackdown is back on USA, WWE PPVs are now on ESPN's streaming service which costs $30 a month instead of Peacock's $5, WWE began a parasitic symbiotic relationship with TNA and annexed purchased AAA, and AEW started their new TV deal worth $185 million a year ($100 more than their old deal), making them the second-most profitable wrestling company of all time and ensuring their solvency until at least the end of 2027 (Though grifters and fraudcasters are still pretending otherwise). Their programming was also added to a whole new platform, HBO Max, vastly increasing their availability in the US and globally.
Both WWE and NJPW propped up ticket sales on the backs of retiring legends. The latter treated their Ace with reverence and appreciation, while the former tried to shake things up with an ill-conceived heel turn no one really wanted, the catalyst for said heel turn disappeared from TV immediately afterward, and the whole storyline was so poorly received they reversed course less than six months later.
WWE attempted to cockblock multiple AEW PPVs, first by counterprogramming them with NXT specials that died a death in the ratings, and then with actual main roster shows like Saturday Night's Main Event which also did the worst number since the show's revival, and their ESPN Unlimited debut Wrestlepalooza, which garnered mixed reviews at best. WWE dropped this strategy after that.

WWE dropped this strategy after that.
WWE also continued to jack up ticket prices to make up for the fact that overall sales have begun to slump, claiming record profits despite numerous sharp attendance drops in various markets. AEW continued to struggle with weekly ticket sales, making slight improvements over 2024 but booking mostly smaller venues for Dynamite and Collision. However their PPV attendance and buyrates remained strong, mostly up from last year. TNA saw some of their best-ever attendance figures, mostly due to the PPV appearances of WWE and ex-WWE legends, and signed a new TV deal with AMC for 2026. CMLL had a great year in terms of business, racking up numerous sellouts with Mistico continuing to prove himself the company MVP. NJPW drew some of the weakest crowds in decades as they struggled to connect their audience to the latest crop of stars, but there is still hope after a sold-out WrestleKingdom 20 attendance.
WWE began openly aligning itself with the MAGA administration (inviting racist "comedian" Tony Hinchcliffe to a WrestleMania weekend event that went so poorly all recordings of it were pulled down) and brought accused sex trafficking accessory Brock Lesnar back into the company, alienating much of its fanbase and pissing away a lot of the goodwill they'd built up after Triple H took over Creative. Even WWE Legend Mick Foley cut ties with the company. AEW restored much of the goodwill they'd lost in the aftermath of the CM Punk fiasco by focusing on stars like Hangman Adam Page and Will Ospreay, and not trying to sign every free agent WWE let go. Instead AEW additions included former independent talents like Megan Bayne, Kevin Knight, Thekla, and former TNA talents Speedball Mike Bailey and Josh Alexander. WWE on the other hand snapped up every ex-AEW talent they could, signing Penta, Rey Fenix, Ricky Starks, Mariah May, Rusev and Aleister Black, none of which have been pushed very hard (Starks and May are still in NXT under new names).
In-ring quality was night and day between the Big Two. WWE personalities and podcasters now openly poo-poo the idea of good wrestling being important (though they still complain about the existence of star ratings when someone else gets high marks), while AEW delivered some of the best matches and PPV events in company history.

Promotion of the Year
For the first time in a few years, public sentiment actually agrees with me. In 2023 and 2024 WWE was unquestionably the hot promotion, with storylines people loved (for some reason) like the Bloodline angle, Cody Rhodes' title quest, and (God help us) CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre. But in 2025 the company cooled off, with John Cena's aforementioned heel turn and title run taking up most of the focus and getting pretty universally panned. They also managed to make Cody Rhodes a much less likable champion, booking him to look like a buffoon in his WrestleMania loss to Cena and not giving him any credible opponents or character-building feuds once he won the title back. Cody's public interviews haven't exactly helped endear him to a lot of the fans either, as he went from "I'll always love AEW and my time there" to "I built AEW by myself and they pushed me out." WWE's PR skills are nonexistent.
AEW started the year on shaky ground, with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders dominating the main event scene along with ex-WWE star Adam Copeland, while most of the really exciting feuds were in the undercard. But things really turned around over the spring when Hangman Adam Page began his redemption arc, culminating in a fantastic feud with Mox that saw Page regain the AEW Title after three long years. The company also boasted maybe the greatest women's feud of all time in Toni Storm vs. Mariah May and built young talents like Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita into major players. AEW's estimated weekly viewership has held pretty steady thanks to the advent of HBO Max, while their PPV buyrates were up year over year for every PPV event except Revolution and Double or Nothing. I personally found their 2024 slate of PPVs slightly better overall than that of 2025, but there's no denying the company is in a much better financial position than it was a year ago and still delivers on PPV like no other.
So from a business standpoint AEW is stronger than it was in 2024, while WWE's product has cooled slightly. Quality-wise there's no comparison once again.

For the sixth straight year, the winner is: AEW
Major Show of the Year
No one does PPV events like AEW. WWE's offerings didn't come close, and even NJPW's aren't what they were in the late 2010s. AEW had three homeruns in 2025 from where I sit. Revolution was an absolutely loaded show that resolved numerous feuds but suffered slightly from an underwhelming main event that should've taken place earlier on the card. All In was an absolutely massive show, drawing the largest US crowd in company history and climaxing the months-long storyline of Jon Moxley holding the AEW Title hostage, but at a staggering six hours for the main card alone, this show tested the limits for sure. But one PPV in 2025 was basically perfect, featuring two excellent Owen Hart Cup finals (one of which was a top MOTY contender), the best Anarchy in the Arena to date, and slew of other bangers. This was the best overall edition of AEW's inaugural PPV so far.
The winner is: AEW Double or Nothing
Most Disappointing Show
On the other side of the PPV spectrum, WWE presented their first-ever two-night SummerSlam event, and while Night 2 was a pretty decent show with an abysmally depressing ending, Night 1 was easily the worst SummerSlam card in fifteen years. The opening Roman Reigns/Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker/Bronson Reed match was by far the best thing on that card, and it was only about a ***3/4 match. The rest of the show was a slog to sit through, particularly the second-gear main event of Gunther vs. a gassed-as-fuck CM Punk, which spread fifteen minutes of action over thirty. And then came the idiotic reveal that Seth Rollins' knee injury from a few weeks earlier was all a ruse to allow him to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, which he could've done without faking an injury. Just an intelligence-insulting "surprise" after a plodding main event. The second night at least had a great final match, with Cody Rhodes and John Cena making up for their WrestleMania stinker with an exciting Street Fight. But since it's a WWE PPV they had to tack on a "shocking" ending, as Brock Lesnar made his return and attacked Cena, leaving new champion Cody looking like an afterthought. This two-night broadcast spotlighted everything wrong with WWE.
The Most Disappointing Major Show of 2025 is: WWE SummerSlam
Feud of the Year
This is a tougher category than usual. While WWE, true to form, didn't feature any knockout rivalries in 2025, AEW presented multiple contenders. Early in the year Will Ospreay and former friend Kyle Fletcher concluded their months-long war with a bloody, violent cage match. In the fall Jon Moxley and Darby Allin waged a war of attrition in a brutal Coffin Match and a sadistic I Quit match. Probably the biggest feud of the year was Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page, the scorched-earth AEW Champion vs. the babyface challenger trying to make up for past sins. Few moments were as emotional as the sight of Page freeing the championship belt from its briefcase prison. But for me the 2025 feud that was absolutely perfect was the conclusion of Toni Storm's All About Eve-inspired rivalry with her fangirl Mariah May. As you'll recall, May appeared on the scene in 2023, latching on to her idol Storm, and eventually earning the latter's trust and affection. But then after winning the 2024 Owen Cup, May brutally attacked Storm with a shoe and ended up winning the AEW Women's World Title at All In 2024. Toni disappeared for months and returned as her old rock-star persona, seemingly oblivious to the previous year's events. But it was all a ruse; Toni stripped off her old gear and revealed her true self once again, vowing "At Grand Slam Australia I'm gonna rip your tits off!" Storm won a clean wrestling match in her home country but the feud didn't end there. Mariah begged for one last match and a Hollywood Ending, and after a pitch-perfect face-to-face interview with Renee Paquette ("I sentence you to a lifetime of mediocrity"), that's just what she got, in the form of a gore-filled Falls Count Anywhere street fight that left both women lying on the entrance ramp, a crimson mess. This five-star match should've closed the Revolution PPV but alas we had to settle for it stealing the undercard. Regardless, this was in my 37 years as a wrestling fan the greatest women's feud and match, and one of the most perfectly executed long-term storylines I've ever seen.
The winner is: Toni Storm vs. Mariah May
Match of the Year
Once again AEW (and others) made this award a tough call; there were so many great matches in 2025 and it keeps getting harder and harder to come to a consensus about which is the best of them all. At NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty we were treated to one of the best Kenny Omega matches in years, against upstart Gabe Kidd. At AEW Revolution we got two candidates in Toni vs. Mariah and Ospreay vs. Fletcher. At WrestleMania we got maybe the best WWE women's match ever in IYO Sky vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair. At AEW Spring Break Thru we got one of the best-ever free TV matches in Ospreay vs. Takeshita. At Double or Nothing we got an amazing Anarchy in the Arena and maybe the best pure wrestling match of the year in Hangman vs. Ospreay. At All Out we got basically an equal in Hangman vs. Fletcher. But one match at All In Texas was a perfect combination of in-ring action and storyline impact, complete with blood, brutality, and nuclear crowd heat. For me it was the most important match of the year.
The 2025 Match of the Year is: Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page, All In Texas
Woman of the Year
Once again this is a two-woman race, and it's the same two women as last year. In 2024 Mercedes Mone debuted in AEW, winning the TBS Title in her first match and keeping it for a record-shattering 584 days until her New Year's Eve 2025 loss back to the woman she won it from, Willow Nightingale. Along the way Mercedes racked up an unprecedented number of other championships from ROH, RevPro, CMLL and others. But for me it was Toni Storm who transcended women's wrestling to become one of the biggest stars on the roster (male or female), continuing to evolve her "Timeless" character both in her blood feud with Mariah and in subsequent feuds with Megan Bayne, Mina Shirakawa, and Mercedes herself (beginning with a main event promo segment that drew the best quarter hour rating on the show). Toni finally lost the title to a woman for whom she'd earlier professed a weakness, Kris Statlander ("What a woman!"), but she continues to be one of the most over figures in wrestling and can lend importance and prestige to any title she wins in the future.
For the second year in a row the winner is: "Timeless" Toni Storm
Tag Team of the Year
Another hard one to pick, this time for the opposite type of parity, as no tag team in 2025 really dominated the year. WWE cares so little about tag team wrestling their championships seldom make PPV events. NJPW's tag division is barely there and most of the time a makeshift team ends up holding their titles. AEW started the year off more or less ignoring Private Party, who had won the AEW Tag belts in October 2024. They quickly lost them in January to a pair of ex-WWE wrestlers who despite usually having the weakest match on the show nonetheless got very much over as monster babyfaces, The Hurt Syndicate. That team developed a seemingly earned reputation of not ever wanting to do jobs, to the point that their own title loss was in a three-way match where neither of them was pinned. Another makeshift team of Brody King and Bandido then held the belts for a few months but not long enough to really be a focus. But one team that was featured heavily, champions or not, in multiple emotional feuds, was the now dastardly heel duo of Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, who ultimately captured their third AEW Tag Team Championship at Full Gear, after feuding with Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Daniel Garcia, Nigel McGuinness, and of course Brodido. It may be by default, but for the tenth consecutive year this award goes to one of two teams.
The Tag Team of the Year is: FTR
Wrestler of the Year
This one is another two-horse race, one a stallion, the other a mare, as it were. I've already made a case for Toni Storm above, and in any other year her 2025 would probably be enough to win this award. The other choice (and no, it's not John Cena for his atrocious heel run and Greatest Hits of the 2010s Tour) is the man who began the year as a violent lost soul before emerging as the hero AEW needed to defeat evil, the man whom even Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland agreed was the only choice to get the job done, the man who vanquished the seemingly unbeatable Jon Moxley and gave the AEW Title back to the fans, AEW's "main character," the Hangman!
The 2025 Wrestler of the Year is: Hangman Adam Page
